Quilt binding calculator
Enter the finished quilt size. You get the number of 2 1/2" strips to cut across the width of fabric, the length to join, and the yardage.
Binding fabric

Strips to cut

at 2 1/2" wide (double-fold binding)
Binding length
276"
the perimeter plus 12" for corners and the join
How the binding is worked out
- Measure around the quilt (twice the width plus twice the length) and add 12" for the mitered corners and the final join.
- Divide by 42", the usable width of quilting cotton, and round up: that is the number of strips.
- Strips are 2 1/2" wide for a double-fold binding that finishes about 3/8" wide, the most common choice.
