Measure your own bed
- Measure the mattress top, width and length.
- Decide the drop: how far the quilt hangs over the sides. Measure from the top of the mattress down to where you want the edge. Around 10" to 12" covers most mattresses; deep mattresses need more.
- Width: mattress width plus the drop on both sides.
- Length: mattress length plus the drop at the foot, plus about 10" if the quilt tucks under the pillows.
Quilting draws a quilt in a little, often 2 to 5 percent, so a heavily quilted top can finish slightly smaller than it was pieced.
